The Story

COTTON TWILL BALLCAP HONORING THE NEW JERSEY AMERICANS

History: The New Jersey Americans won the ASL championship in 1977 and promptly did something audacious: their commissioner Bob Cousy challenged the NASL champs, the Cosmos — PelĂ©, Beckenbauer, Warner Communications and all — to play them for the real American soccer title. A second-division club calling out the most famous soccer franchise in the country. The Cosmos didn't respond. The following season the Americans signed EusĂ©bio, the Portuguese star of the 1966 World Cup, but the 36 year-old had already blown his knees and only made eight appearances. The team folded two years later, the Cosmos never having acknowledged them.

Made with cotton twill, our signature satin underbrim, and an embroidered felt appliqué logo, this ballcap honors the scrappy yet short-lived New Jersey Americans.
