COTTON TWILL BALLCAP HONORING THE BOSTON MINUTEMEN

History: Founded in 1974 by Boston oil-stock dealer John Sterge, the Minutemen won the Northern Division in each of their first two seasons, signed Eusébio midseason in 1975, and put Shep Messing in goal (after he was kicked off the Cosmos for posing nude in Viva magazine). That same year, a home game against Pelé's Cosmos ended in a near-riot — fans swarmed the field, Pelé was carted off injured, and the commissioner nullified the result and ordered a rematch. Two years later Sterge's finances collapsed. The roster was sold off piece by piece, and coach Hubert Vogelsinger dramatically quit, offering some choice words for the clubhouse.
